Assessment and professional development are integrated into one department in order to advance individuals within our organization and our division as a whole. We are committed to continuous improvement, which is why we have worked with our colleagues across the division to build departmental assessment capacity. Our team works with all departments and units within Student Affairs to develop goals and outcomes aligned with our division-wide learning goals, our Aspirations for Student Learning. We consult with colleagues on how to best measure these outcomes and make data-informed decisions. We also support departments in strategic planning and program review process. We assist with university accreditation, and provide leadership to several efforts to help our colleagues better understand the student experience here at Virginia Tech.

As the division and departments identify skills gaps and organizational needs, we collaborate with our colleagues to create an environment that supports the development of knowledge and enhancement of skills of our faculty, staff, wage, and graduate and undergraduate student employees and interns. The division values the personal and professional growth of each of its members, utilizing a Strengths-Based Learning approach. We strive to ensure that all of our colleagues Explore, Practice, and Live the Aspirations in their daily work lives. This developmental journey is vital to upholding a community of excellence within our learning organization that supports the learning experiences of students in and out of the classroom.
