After orange and maroon, your third favorite color will soon be “Hokie Stone.” Virginia Tech operates its own quarry nearby to mine the popular limestone that appears on many buildings around campus, and no two stones are the same.
Virginia Tech started as a military academy—it was not until 1964 that participation was voluntary. Today, those students make up the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. We are one of the nation’s six senior military colleges and one of two large public universities with both an active corps of cadets and “civilian” lifestyle on its campus. There were 1,090 cadets in our corps last academic year, striving to serve their communities and develop as leaders.
