David Chinn

David serves as Director for Finance and Planning at Virginia Tech. In this role, he oversees housekeeping, maintenance, renovations, budget, and operations. David earned a B.S. in civil engineering and a master’s degree in business administration. Before working in Housing, David worked as capital projects manager at Virginia Tech.

David’s favorite part of his work with HRL is meeting students and hearing first-hand how his team can improve the on-campus facilities to facilitate students’ learning at Virginia Tech.

Among his many personal pursuits is his barbecue expertise. He is the defending Grand Champion of Emory and Henry’s Ampersand Day BBQ contest.

The university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), is what attracted David as a student more than 20 years ago, and to live a life of service continues to be as important to him now as it was then.
