A semester in review
A message from the Vice President for Student Affairs
It’s early January here, and campus is quiet as we wait to welcome our students back to Blacksburg for the spring semester. In preparing for the spring, I took a moment to reflect on each month of the fall semester — moments that made students smile, milestones our community celebrated, and memories we’ll carry forward with us into the new year.
Each photo represents a chapter of our shared experience, a reminder of everything we’ve accomplished together, and the many ways we’ve connected, learned, and grown. Whether your student took part in a new opportunity, attended an event, or checked out a new building or service on campus, their presence has been a vital part of our story; and I couldn’t be more grateful for the journey we’ve had so far.
I share these pictures with you so you can relive the highlights, celebrate the progress, and join us in feeling proud of all that our students have accomplished. I look forward to the memories we will create this spring.
August: Move-in and our Weeks of Welcome are an exciting time for new Hokies, and campus is always so beautiful during this time of year! This fall we welcomed over 9000 students as they settled into their on-campus housing. Student clubs and organizations came together to celebrate the start of the semester at Gobblerfest.
September: September was a big month in student resources, marking the opening of the The Roost recovery living-learning community and the re-opening of the new and improved War Memorial Gym, which includes the James and Elizabeth Mossberg Table Tennis Zone.
October: In October, students and alumni came together to celebrate our Virginia Tech traditions for Homecoming. Recreational Sports hosted their fifth annual Hokie Movement week, encouraging students to experience the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. Derek, one of Cook Counseling’s therapy dogs, celebrated his 8th birthday.
November: In November, we uplifted students through our First-Generation Celebration Week. Our Residential Well-being program was recognized as a national leader. The Chillfield made its first visit to the Drillfield, offering a new way for students to find engagement experiences at Virginia Tech.
December: In December, Dining Services hosted an event for students to decorate gingerbread houses, winding down the end of the semester.
