Hugs For Hokies

In response to the isolation of the COVID years of 2020-2021, local families in our community came together to offer extra care and support to students on campus, and Hugs for Hokies was born. With guidance from New Student and Family Programs, Hugs for Hokies provides monthly days of connection and comfort for students and helps to educate them on further resources such as The Market of Virginia Tech (food access), Cook Counseling Center, and other mental health resources—because sometimes a hug isn't enough.

We partner with The Market, Dining Services, and several external donors to provide our students with free food and snacks, and basic hygiene items during most Hugs for Hokies events.

Hugs for Hokies volunteers go through a thorough background check, vetting process, and training prior to their service. Hugs for Hokies days typically occur monthly throughout the academic year, and dates are announced on the New Student and Family Programs Instagram and Facebook accounts as well as GobblerConnect.

We invite families local to the New River Valley to apply to become a Hugs for Hokies volunteer through their Hokie Family Hub account.
