Planning and Special Projects

Planning and Special Projects is responsible for overseeing the lifecycle of respective projects on campus including planning, design, construction, and post construction responsibilities such as warranties for both new construction and renovation projects.

This oversight includes working with internal campus partners in Facilities such as Capital Construction, the University Building Official (UBO) Office, and the Office of University Planning (OUP) along with partners external to campus including respective design firms and general contractor/construction management companies that are awarded contracts to support VT/SA with relevant projects.

Planning and Special Projects also serves as an owner’s rep and in an end user capacity to facilitate communication between both internal campus partners and external partners with the appropriate SA departments including but not limited to Housing, Dining, Recreational Sports, and Corps of Cadets. In addition to projects, Planning and Special Projects also supports the Finance and Planning department with additional tasks such as:

  • Hokiemart Procurement, including review and approval for level 1 and level 2 requisitions.
  • Fixed Assets inventory management.
  • Surplus Property management including locating and tagging property andidentifying assets that are no longer functional or beyond their useful life in coordination with Procurement’s Surplus Property department.
  • FF&E procurement including warranty related furniture needs in response to recent projects or additional furniture needs for respective spaces on campus such as dining halls.
