Tim Sands highlights progress, priorities, and athletics push in State of the University Address
During his 10th State of the University Address on Feb. 18, Sands said the university will continue to focus on global distinction and Virginia Tech Advantage while also moving athletics to the forefront of priorities. He also said that the university could face challenges this year and is making contingency plans in preparation for those challenges.

Last year, over 5000 volunteers provided 800+ service projects to the community through The Big Event.

3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance
- April 18, 2026 @ 9 a.m.
- The event’s 3.2-mile loop around the Blacksburg campus begins in front of War Memorial Hall, passing iconic landmarks such as The Grove, Lane Stadium, and the Virginia Tech Pylons, before concluding at the April 16 Memorial.
