Jonathon Ridge

The Inclusion Award is presented to the Student Affairs employee or group of employees that create learning environments that foster equitable participation of all groups while seeing to address and acknowledge issues of oppression, power, and privilege. Some of the criteria include building inclusive, supportive, just, and diverse environments promoting multicultural awareness, and valuing and celebrating equity and inclusion.

Jonathon Ridge has consistently demonstrated leadership, inclusion, and care for others through his work in Student Affairs and his dedicated outreach efforts. He has made significant strides in building a more inclusive, and welcoming environment for our housekeeping staff, many of whom identify as part of the Hispanic community. Recognizing the barriers non-native English speakers face, he has engaged directly with current staff and extended his outreach into the wider community, creating new pathways for recruitment and fostering trust.

Even though Spanish is not his first language, he has shown remarkable leadership by using Spanish in the workplace to build stronger connections. His willingness to step outside his comfort zone has helped employees feel seen, valued, and respected, inspiring others to strengthen their own communication and cultural awareness.

He has also been a strong advocate for translating training materials into Spanish, ensuring all employees can access critical information about safety, policies, and procedures. This effort not only supports equity but also improves the quality of service we provide to students and the broader university community.

Through these initiatives, Jonathon has lived out the principles of this award: building inclusive and supportive communities, promoting cultural awareness, and creating a welcoming environment within our division. His commitment to respect, compassion, and inclusion truly embodies the spirit of this award to build inclusive and supportive environment for others.
