Kyla Dance

The Tom Brown Award for Exemplary Care and Advocacy

Kyla Dance serves as the Associate Director for Team Growth and Development for Residential Well-being. In her role, she consistently demonstrates flexibility, gives constructive feedback, and embodies her commitment to improving the student experience.

Kyla is a shining example of what it looks like to truly embed oneself in the campus community. She knows connection and belonging start with meeting students where they are — so that when they need assistance, guidance, or support, they know where to start.

Her affirming presence has helped her team through major transitions that could have easily been disruptive and frustrating for employees and students. When Student Affairs transitioned to a new software for GobblerConnect, the online platform for student events, Kyla was an engaged partner in developing new infrastructure for Residential Well-being community pages. Her work ensured continuity of data collection and smooth processing of program funding requests. Her positive attitude and willingness to tackle a major technical shift ensured that students could reliably use the new GobblerConnect platform, which is an essential tool that helps them build and strengthen community.

This is just one example of the way that Kyla approaches challenges. No matter the issue at hand, she always works hard to understand the context of change, asks good questions, and is sharp in identifying potential problems. And because of her commitment to the community, her team members trust her to identify solutions that align with student needs.

For her dedication, collaboration, and the positivity she brings to her work in caring for and strengthening the campus community, Student Affairs is proud to present The Tom Brown Award for Exemplary Care and Advocacy to Kyla Dance.
