New Student and Family Programs recognize that a student’s transition to college is shared by the whole family. Although it is essential for new students to make their own decisions, we also understand that new students often need the support of their families during this transition. Family Orientation opportunities exist for all Student Orientations (First-Year, Transfer, and International) and include information for new Hokie families to help answer questions and address concerns about student life at Virginia Tech. We encourage you to attend!
Family Orientation Sign-up
When your student signs up for orientation, through the registration link they received in their Virginia Tech email, they will be asked to provide information on all family members and guests who will be attending with them. There is a $35 fee assessed for each family member/guest attending orientation. This fee provides a boxed lunch on day one, orientation materials, and all related programming. Your student will be required to pay the family member/guest fee in order to complete their sign-up and reserve their orientation date.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
The family member/guest fee is nonrefundable.
A boxed lunch on day one is included in the family member/guest fee.
The family member/guest fee does not include lodging. Family members are responsible for making their own lodging and meal accommodations.
Please note: You do not need to reserve a room or purchase meals for your student.
Note: Registration for families to stay in on-campus residence halls during Orientation will open in May.
Conference and Guest Services is pleased to provide convenient, affordable on-campus housing for families during orientation. Sign up for overnight housing in New Hall West, an air-conditioned residence hall with private bathrooms.
On-campus housing is only available for the night of your student’s orientation session. If you plan to arrive the night before your student’s orientation session begins, you will need to arrange for accommodations at the Inn at Virginia Tech or an area hotel.
A meal plan is also included in the cost of your room. The meal plan includes dinner on day one, as well as breakfast on day two. Dinner on day one and breakfast on day two will be served in D2 at Dietrick Hall, our all-you-care-to-eat dining center.
Another lodging option for families during orientation is the Inn at Virginia Tech, the university’s hotel and conference center. The hotel has a full-service restaurant. For more information, call toll free 877-200-3360 or visit their website at www.innatvirginiatech.com.
