Will Orientation be virtual?

Is there an orientation for families?

  • Yes! Families can access their orientation through the virtual orientation portal. Family members should select the "Guest" to complete their Virtual Orientation experience.

Are there any opportunities for students and families to visit campus?

  • Yes! Admitted Student Visits is an optional program for newly admitted students and their families to visit campus prior to their start at VT. In this 2-hour program, students and families will learn about Virginia Tech resources, campus navigation, and much more. Registration begins May 1. Admitted Student Visits will occur between June 5 and July 21.

Are there any opportunities to talk to a current Virginia Tech student?

  • Yes! Students can register for a virtual session with an Orientation Leader. Registration will open May 1. These engagements will take place from June 5 through July 21.

Why is it important for me to participate in Orientation?

  • The program will welcome and introduce you to the campus community, as well as provide important information and resources to help you succeed.

What do I need to have handy for the virtual Orientation modules?

  • An open mind, patience, and excitement!

How do I sign up for a dining plan? (For students who are living on campus).

  • Students are automatically assigned a Major Flex Plan as an on-campus resident.
  • To upgrade to a Mega or Premium Flex dining plan, go to onecampus.vt.edu.
  • Click on Housing and Dining Contract and follow the instructions.

I want to live on campus. What do I do?

  • Go to onecampus.vt.edu.
  • Click on Housing and Dining Contract and follow the instructions.
  • It is advised that you complete your Housing Contract as soon as you pay your matriculation fee. The order in which you get to pick your residence hall is based on the order in which you complete your Housing Contract.

I need to change my major. What do I do?

  • No change of major will be considered during Orientation or until the student is enrolled and works with an academic advisor.
