Positions include:
Orientation Leaders (OLs) are student leaders who serve as facilitators and welcome all new students, families, and guests to campus and its resources during various programs and events. Orientation Leaders assist with First-Year Orientation, Transfer Orientation, International Orientation, and continue to serve first year and transfer students and their families through our Weeks of Welcome programming and Fall Family Weekend. OLs will develop leadership, communication, facilitation, and customer service skills that will be used while they assist new Hokies in their transition to Virginia Tech.
Student Coordinators (SCs) are returning student leaders who play an active role in advancing the mission and vision of New Student and Family Programs through leadership, support, and assistance for the orientation and transition programs through special initiatives and projects. This position builds on previous NSFP leadership experiences, further developing the peer mentoring and leadership skills that students were previously introduced to. Strong SC candidates should exemplify adaptability, self-awareness, cultural competence, creativity, and effective communication. SCs serve as role models and provide peer supervision and development to the Orientation Leader and Weeks of Welcome Leader teams. This role requires a high level of commitment as it requires investment in various areas and assists in the recruitment, selection, training, peer supervision of team members, and supports program initiatives by serving as behind the scenes project support during all of our programs.
Weeks of Welcome Leaders are student leaders who welcome all new Hokies to the Virginia Tech campus and community during Weeks of Welcome. This is a very dynamic role that will allow interested students to hone leadership, management, and facilitation skills and provide a very exciting experience. More information about this position’s recruitment and selection process will be available in the Spring semester.
Through the NODA Internship Program coordinated by the Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education (NODA), New Student and Family Programs recruits graduate student interns. Interns support the coordination and implementation of summer Orientation and extended orientation programs, and assist with the training and supervision of student leaders.
