Parent Advisory Council

Student Affairs
Student Affairs completes and complements a Virginia Tech education with hands-on, mindful experiences that prepare students for rewarding lives. Student Affairs is deeply committed to providing rich co-curricular learning opportunities and essential student services. Virtually every aspect of a student’s life outside the classroom is represented through the division’s departments.
Families are an essential part of Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech Parent Advisory Council members are ambassadors for all Hokie families. They represent the interests of parents and families by partnering with the Vice President for Student Affairs to enhance learning opportunities and support transformational experiences. Council members majorly impact the university environment through their engagement, philanthropy, and expertise.
Members Responsibilities
As a Parent Advisory Council member, you will play a leadership role in Student Affairs in several ways:
- The Parent Advisory Council promotes the university and Student Affairs to the broader community by advocating for the critical work of Student Affairs in their personal and professional networks.
- Members serve as thought leaders, using their experience and expertise to provide counsel to the Vice President for Student Affairs on programmatic and strategic issues, fundraising objectives, and increasing parent engagement with Virginia Tech.
- Members contribute $5,000 or more each year to the area of Student Affairs they find most meaningful.
Time Commitment
Members attend two meetings on campus in Blacksburg each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Each member will serve on one of five committees working on areas such as communications and marketing, parent engagement, recruitment, and development. Committee meetings will take place virtually in between on-campus meetings. You may serve as hosts during special university events, such as Fall and Spring Family Weekends, and help to recruit new Hokies families to the council from your area.
